Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Giunta.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Evolution is a multi-clinic, bi-coastal company whose mission is to completely redefine the profession of physical therapy. They aim to provide all patients, clients and the community with exceptional rehabilitation services, injury prevention, fitness, performance training, wellness and recovery.

In 2024, Michael Acquired Maven Physical Therapy in Santa Monica with vision of having Out of Network options for patients in addition to the in-network options at the Evolution Clinics

Current owner and CEO, Mike Giunta, DPT joined Evolution as a physical therapist in 2011. He could see Evolution’s degree of excellence, their difference in approach and the company’s potential from first glance, which lead to his move across the country for the job, and then his acquisition of Evolution from his original mentor eight years later. His drive to establish Evolution as the top clinic in Los Angeles has been constant and apparent. Giunta has been a driving force behind the company’s rapid Los Angeles and bi-coastal expansion. Currently leading ten clinics in Los Angeles, CA and four clinics in Connecticut, five in Colorado and one in New York. Giunta’s goal is to provide greater accessibility to patients while maintaining the highest quality and individualized care.

Michael has serviced as the Medical Director of the Premier Lacrosse League, the Head Physical Therapist for the Burton U.S. Open of Snowboarding, as well as various local collaborations and sponsorships. He has worked with a number of professional and Olympic athletes as well as patients and clients of all ages and physical levels.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, never is a smooth road. You learn a lot through your failures. I had to navigate the Covid 19 pandemic just 2 years after taking ownership. This was a challenging time that pulled on leadership strings as everyone had their own opinions and motivations to how a company in this situation had to be run. Fortunately the practice actually got stronger during that time by way of mission alignment and leadership. We leaned a lot about communication and transparency during that time. This was the launching point to our expansion. At the time we only had 4 clinics in Los Angeles and one very new acquisition in Connecticut. All of our opening and acquisitions have presented their own challenges, but understanding early on that the road is not always linear was important to fostering the success we have had.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Evolution Physical Therapy / Maven Physical Therapy?
We are a physical therapy company that truly bridges the gap between physical therapy, fitness, performance and wellness. We are committed to a more functional medicine approach that focuses not just on getting our patients out of pain, but improving their strength, mobility and endurance in order to achieve their goals. This concept is important to the idea of longevity. As people age, they oftentimes do not know where to turn and give in to the aging process. What we know is that the earlier to start focusing on issues the better, but it is also never too late.

I am most proud of the passion that our employees have to help people. We don’t just project to our community, we are a part of it. For example, it would be easy to give an injury prevention seminar to a run group. Instead, we are out there running every mile with them, sweating and laughing along the way. It’s important to get to know your community from the inside out- people have a lot of options these days and can see right through superficial marketing tactics.

One unique part of our practice is that we offer both Physical Therapy services AND Fitness/Nutrition Services. These services include One on One Physical Therapy, large and small group classes, personal training, accountability coaching and nutrition consults.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
We have so much access to information these days. It’s important to listen and consume a variety of different mediums to help understand differing points of views and concepts. I found a lot of value in researching people who are truly great in many different industries and then relating it back to my field in physical therapy.

One thing that has worked well for me is never turning down an opportunity. I say YES a lot and this has served me well. Many of these opportunities never formulated into anything, but others did in a big way. Be patient. Success doesn’t happen overnight and I have learned that work that I put in many years ago may still bud fruit in the future.
